The university library is named after Kuntala Kumari Sabut, noted physician, writer and freedom fighter who has significant contribution for women's upliftment in the society. The Rama Devi Women' College library which was established in 1964 was converted into a university library as the erstwhile Rama Devi Women's College was converted into a university. All the resources of the college library were included in the university library and all students both UG and PG are made users of the library.
The Kuntala Kumari Library is committed to empowerment of women by providing information resources & services that are essential to teaching, learning, research and creation of knowledge systems. To realize this mission, the library is committed to create hospitable physical and virtual environment for study, teaching and research. The library strives to facilitate seamless access to quality knowledge and information resources in all formats. To execute this vision, the library will create congenial atmosphere that will allow interface of library resources for integrative scholarship.
It is the responsibility of the library to acquire, organise and provide access to various kinds of information sources including books, journals, theses, etc both in print and electronic forms and provide excellent IT based information services and be partner in the pursuit of academic excellence by students, researchers and faculty. The University Library functions as the primary information resource center and repository of printed and electronic resources for teaching, learning and research activities at the university. Apart from textbooks and recommended reading materials prescribed for each course offered at the university, the library houses a growing collection of research monographs, reports, multi-volume reference works, dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, and so on. The library facilitates access to electronic journals, e-books, e-Databases, ETD, etc through its participation in consortia, such as ProQuest. The library also subscribes to several print journals directly from publishers as well as through reputed subscription agencies.
The collection of the library is strong in English and Odia literature. However collection of the university library includes information material in English, Hindi, Sanskrit and Odia.
The library provides internet based services. Users are providing access to use the computer system to access Internet and all other e-resources available free of cost. OPAC is available and user can access to library collection. ProQuest Data base is available over remote access and all users can access and use the database to search and download the database.
The Library has the facility of Turnitin anti-plagiarism tool for checking the similarity index of all publications.
The library has been automated by using Smart Library software. All the text books and reference books have been entered into the software and have been barcoded. The cataloging database and circulation system have been automated and OPAC has been generated.
The library has a section for visually challenged students. There are Braille books, talking books and JAWS software by which the visually challenged students have the facility to listen the read books.
